Project Summary
The project consisted of the design of a new chemical manufacturing and distribution center for Atotech, USA. The facility is located on a 17.5 acre tract in Waterford Industrial Park, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The facility includes Atotech, USA’s Corporate Headquarters, Customer Service Labs, Research and Development labs, Manufacturing and Warehouse areas. The building was constructed using conventional steel framing with insulated precast concrete panels in the manufacturing area, and metal studs with an EIFS exterior at the office area.
In 2000, Wash Hatem Nelson designed a 67,000 s.f. addition to the facility which included the expansion of the warehouse area and renovation of the manufacturing area to expand production. New laboratory space was added and the existing laboratory space was renovated to meet the needs of Quality Control and expanded R&D Laboratories. Additional office space and a large training room were also included as well as renovations of the existing office space to meet the needs of the expanded staff.
In 2002, Wash Hatem Nelson was called upon to design a 1600 square foot laboratory in the Production / Warehouse area inside the Atotech facility. The construction included a structural mezzanine, spill containment, new mechanical make up and exhaust air, as well as new electrical service distribution and a new emergency generator. Renovation of an adjacent laboratory was also included in the project.
